For more than two decades, David Nicksay has led feature films through all stages of production in his role as executive producer at Heliopolis Entertainment. David Nicksay has served as a producer on such hit films as Legally Blonde.

Legally Blonde pleased both audiences and critics alike when it hit the big screen 17 years ago. Despite its popularity, there are several facts about the film that many fans might not know, including the following.

1. In preparation for the film, Reese Witherspoon studied the demeanor of sorority girls to avoid stereotyping them. During this process, she accompanied sorority members on trips to Neiman Marcus and their dorms. This gave her the unique opportunity to learn about their manner of speaking and gauge what they did on a daily basis.

2. The filmmakers initially wanted to set the film at Stanford Law, where character Elle Woods studied in the original book. However, the school did not permit them to make the film on campus. The University of Chicago also denied the filmmakers’ request to film on campus due to a potentially controversial scene in the film. As a result, Legally Blonde ended up with Harvard University as its backdrop.

3. The cast and crew shot the graduation scene during film tests, when both Reese Witherspoon and Luke Wilson were filming new projects. The scene, which takes place two years after the main events of the film, required both actors to wear wigs because they had cut their hair for their other roles.
